Quoth the BBC News Styleguide:
Pro-life is used in the United States to denote the lobby which opposes abortion. In the UK, there is an implication that if you are not pro-life then you are anti-life or pro-death. Avoid this moral minefield by using anti-abortion.
So why are the BBC describing the old blokes standing outside Parliament holding up pictures of Jesus as “pro life” instead of “anti-abortion”, in an item about the abortion laws on BBC Breakfast news this morning?
